Andalusia High School softball coach Marcus Taylor said the annual golf tournament last Saturday at Evans Barnes Golf Course was a success.

“It went well,” he said. “We sold 60 sponsorships and had 17 golf teams show up.”

Taylor said he was especially “surprised” at the number of teams that played on Saturday.

“I was surprised by the number of people that showed up for the tournament,” he said. “In the past, we had about eight teams show up. At 7:20 a.m. that morning, we had 10 teams show up. Then, we had to get the parents to get golf carts.”

There were so many teams that played that all golf carts at the course were used, Taylor said.

“We’ll definitely have (a tournament) next year. The parents did such a good job with the sponsorships,” he said.

“We’re excited about the number of teams that could possibly show up next year. We’re hoping to get 20 teams to sign up.”

Taylor added he was happy the event went so well, even in spite of the down economy.

“It was a great thing to have the tournament, with the state of the economy the way it is right now,” he said. “I just want to give thanks to Dwight Mikel for the course conditions and the parents for providing the food.”

The winning group on Saturday was AHS coach Brian Seymore, his brother Jeff, his father Rick, and Sam Brown.
