Teams have 2nd half of season to get playoff berth

Each of the six local football teams in Covington County will take a break this week from region play.
For the past three weeks, each team has battled on the field to get ahead early enough to hopefully secure a playoff berth.
Football teams in our area and across the state have four more opportunities to get to the playoffs.
This Friday night, Andalusia will host Class 5A Greenville; Opp will host Straughn; Red Level will host Florala; and Pleasant Home will host Coffeeville.
In addition to it being a non-region week for each team, this Friday night signifies the halfway point in the 10-game season.
After Greenville, Andalusia will travel to play Thomasville, Clarke County and UMS-Wright in region games. The only home region game they have left is against Hillcrest-Evergreen on Oct. 16, which is homecoming.
Straughn will face Central-Hayneville next week for homecoming, travel to Calhoun, host T.R. Miller and Luverne.
Opp is traveling to Ashford, Elmore County and Montgomery Catholic; and hosting Bullock County.
Florala’s region away games will be in Dothan for Providence Christian School and Pleasant Home. The Wildcats will host Geneva County and Ariton.
Pleasant Home will host Brantley, Providence Christian and Florala; and then travel to play Kinston.
Red Level will host Washington County and Southern Choctaw (homecoming); and travel to Mobile Christian and Leroy.
The next four Friday nights are the most important for each local team.
This is a good week to iron out those kinks that are causing problems and still need correcting.
It will be interesting to see how each team in the area will come back after last week’s losses.
Who will be the victor and end up getting that coveted playoff berth?
In about a few weeks, we’ll know for sure.
