The Straughn Middle School Tigers defeated Opp Thursday night in football action, 24-8.

“The keys to the game were that we had no turnovers and we only had one penalty in the game,” Straughn coach Benjie Kinsaul said. “Opp is a very explosive team on offense.”

On the opening kickoff, Straughn drove the ball down the field to set up a 6-yard touchdown run from Devin Scott to put his team on the board.

Scott completed the drive by making the two-point conversion.

Opp answered by scoring on a 65-yard touchdown pass on its first play of possession. The two-point conversion was no good.

Straughn got the ball back and 65 yards later, the Tigers scored another touchdown when Scott ran it in, this time from 25 yards out to make it 14-6 at halftime.

Johnny Owens was successful at the two-point conversion to make it 16-6.

The Tigers held the Bobcats in the third quarter and the last touchdown was scored in the fourth quarter when Brennan Head picked up a fumble and ran the ball 70 yards for the score.

The Tigers improved to 3-2 on the season and they will play in Opp next Thursday night at 5:30.
