Opp defeated Bullock County last Friday night, 46-41, to claim its first area victory of the season.

The Bobcats needed the win heading into this week’s Daleville tournament, which started on Monday.

Opp and Bullock County were tied 9-9 after the first quarter and 21-21 at halftime.

The Bobcats controlled the tempo of the game in the third quarter when they took the lead.

“It was a close game,” Opp coach Ronnie Sansom said. “We actually pulled the ball out and held it to slow the game down in the third. I was proud that we were able to do that.”

Opp led 33-29 entering the fourth quarter and Sansom said Bullock got the lead back on a turnover.

“My team withstood that lead (change) and didn’t get shook,” he said.

Although the Bobcats came out with the win in the end, they only shot 8-of-20 from the free throw line.

“We hit the free throws when it came down in the end,” Sansom said.

Opp’s Gavin Free led with 15 points and Tyler Harrison had 13. Steadman Gerber led in rebounds with 10.
