Friday’s area basketball round up

Andalusia’s boys varsity basketball team picked up a 67-53 win over Clarke County Friday night at home.

Andalusa’s O’Brien Curry led his team with 24 points to help lift his team over Clarke County.

Andalusia (17-2, 4-0 in Class 4A, Area 3) led 35-30 at the break before outscoring Clarke County 10-4 in the third quarter and 22-19 in the fourth quarter.

Jacard Townsend and Justin Dooley also finished in double figures. Townsend had 14 and Dooley had 13.

Clarke County’s Lamarkis Sharpe led his team scoring 27 points.

Straughn girls 48, Calhoun girls 39

Straughn’s Kayla Teel scored 12 of her 26 points in the first quarter Friday night to help lead her team over Calhoun, 48-39.

The Lady Tigers improve to 15-3 overall, and 3-1 in Class 3A, Area 3.

In varsity boys action, Straughn fell to Calhoun, 45-43.

Straughn’s Austin Pickrel led in scoring with 15 points.

In B-team action, Straughn won over Calhoun 26-21.

Kinston boys 61, Florala boys 43

Kinston’s Hunter Anderson led with 17 points. Florala’s Zac Fleming had 17 points and Erik Vega had eight points.

Florala girls 43, Kinston girls 30

Florala’s Brooke Hammonds scored 22 of her team’s 43 points Friday night in the area win.

Paige Irwin also had a good night for the Lady Wildcats chipping in 16.

Kinston’s Agee Evans had 14 points.

Red Level boys 61, Excel boys 55

Troy Nolen led with Tigers with 13 points in his team’s area victory.

James Feagin also led for Red Level with 10.

Red Level girls 40, Excel girls 39

Red Level’s Koneshia Calloway scored on an offensive rebound to help edge Excel by one point with 13 seconds left in the contest.

Calloway led her team with 16 points. Lania Paulk scored eight points in the fourth quarter alone.
