There’s only one thing on the minds of the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs leading into tonight’s area tournament in Thomasville — making it to the area championship game on Saturday night.

Tonight, Andalusia will hit the road to take on Clarke County in the first round of the Class 4A, Area 3 tournament.

Andalusia (20-5) has won the last two meetings over Clarke County and a win tonight would guarantee two more games in this season.

Seniors Amber Anderson and Erica King said they have high expectations leading into tonight’s tournament.

“We expect to win the championship game this Saturday,” Anderson said.

When asked what their team needs to accomplish in order to win tonight, both said things are a must.

“We just need to come prepared for the game and play hard ‘D’,” King said.

Andalusia coach Bennie Shellhouse said tonight’s game is a must win.

“It’s one of those games you have to win,” he said. “I just hope we come out and play with good intensity.

“We’ve had 15-point leads on them both times and kind of let them get back in it,” he said. “So, the game plan works — it’s whether or not we can hold them off for their comebacks.”

Shellhouse said the players’ mindset seem focused on the task in front of them.

“We’ve had some good practices,” Shellhouse said. “We’re going to go after them hard and see what happens.”

Tonight’s game against Clarke County starts at 5:30.
