Straughn wins 2 on road

The Straughn Tigers went undefeated in a weekend doubleheader on Saturday against Wicksburg and Geneva County on the road.
The Tigers beat Wicksburg 6-3 in the first game and finished the day defeating Geneva County, 5-0.

Straughn’s Drew Jones was 2-for-4 with one run, one home run and two RBIs to help lead his team to the victory.
“One thing I was real proud about was in the fourth inning and sixth innings,” Straughn coach John Fussell said. “Wicksburg had some runners on base and we turned a double play in the fourth inning to get out of jam. We picked right back up and had big strikeouts in the sixth inning.”
Cody Hughes earned the win for the Tigers on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing one run, one hit and striking out seven.
Other leading hitters for Straughn were Josh Dewrell, Luke Fussell, Zack Turvin, Chase Short and Nick Allen.
Zack Stinson got the save for Straughn (2-0) pitching 3.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs, three hits and striking out three.

Geneva County 0
The Tigers scored four runs in the seventh inning alone to help seal their second win on Saturday.
Josh Dewrell, Luke Fussell, Nick Allen, Drew Jones, Zack Stinson, Chase Parker, Zack Turvin and Cody Hughes all got hits for Straughn in its second game.
Josh Dewrell earned the win on the mound pitching 5.0 innings, allowing three hits, zero runs, one walk and striking out eight.
Straughn’s junior varsity team will start its season this season with a doubleheader against Highland Home.
The varsity team continues its season on Tues., March 2 in Carroll-Ozark for a doubleheader.
