The Florala Wildcats lost their home opener Thursday night against Baker 6-4 in extra innings.
Despite the loss, Florala coach Stan Gooden said he was “pleased” with his team’s effort.
“We were very aggressive at the plate,” he said. “We made a few errors in the field that hurt us in the end.
“We had our chances to win in the seventh inning,” he said. “Baker has a real good team. They made a few more plays than we did, but I was pleased with our effort in the first game of the season.”
Given the cold weather Thursday night, Gooden said the team stayed focused throughout.
“They stayed in the game,” he said. “Brock Goodwin and Zac Fleming got out there and battled for strikes. For it to be the first game, I’m pleased with our effort. We’re going to try to be competitive and get better.”
The Wildcats will get that chance today as they play in a three-team round robin in Opp at Merchants Field.
Florala will play Opp in the first game at 10 a.m. and then will play Andalusia at 12:30.
