The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles won their season-opener Monday night at Red Level, 11-5.
Tied 3-3 in the fourth inning, Red Level scored two runs and went ahead 5-4 leading into the fifth.
In the top of the sixth inning, Pleasant Home’s Megan Cook hit an inside-the-park home run to score four runs out of her team’s eight in that inning.
“I’m just proud that we came back,” Pleasant Home coach Jimmy Reeves said. “Being the first game — you could just tell it was the first game. We played terrible defense. We hit the ball pretty good especially when we needed to. We’re just real young. It’s going to take us a while to jell.”
Mary Schwartz was 3-for-4 at the plate and Brentin Fuller earned the win for the Lady Eagles on the mound.
Earlier in the game, Kayla Woods started Pleasant Home’s scoring in the first inning, crossing the plate on a sacrifice fly from Cook.
Pleasant Home’s Emily Byrd scored on an RBI triple from Kaitlin Brookshire in the fourth inning. Then, Brookshire came around an RBI single from Kat Dozier to make it 3-0.
Pleasant Home’s Tuesday game against area opponent Florala has been postponed due to the weather. The game will be made up next Friday at 2:45 p.m. for varsity only.
On Thursday, the Lady Eagles will host McKenzie at 3:30 p.m. for the varsity team.
