There is a first for everything.
Straughn coach Ray Wilson experienced a first in his coaching career Tuesday night when his team tied with Flomaton 1-1.
Both teams scored in the first inning, and it stayed that way until the fifth inning, when play was stopped due to inclement weather.
“I’ve never tied before in softball,” Wilson said. “I think it would have been a great game to finish. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to. I think Flomaton has always had a real good team and is always well-coached. There is no exception this year.”
Flomaton scored its only run off of an error from Straughn.
Wilson said when you play good teams, that can’t happen.
“We were fortunate to get a run across to tie it up,” he said.
Straughn moves to 2-2-1 on the season and it will play Florala today 3:30 p.m. starting with junior varsity.
