Andalusia boys beat Miller, 12-9

The Andalusia Bulldogs boys tennis team defeated T.R. Miller Thursday, winning three singles and two doubles matches.

The Bulldogs racked up 12 points compared to T.R. Miller’s nine.

In girls action, T.R. Miller defeated Andalusia, 13-8.

Singles

In singles action, the Bulldogs tied with T.R. Miller, 3-3.

Andalusia coach Perry Dillard said it can be a “struggle” at times not having a complete team to work with.

“It really hurts us not having Chris Smith in our line up because he’s our No. 4 guy,” he said. “Everybody has had to play up (in their seed).”

Smith had to be disqualified in an earlier match due to injury.

No. 3 singles bracket — Andalusia’s Mayur Patel def. T.R. Miller’s Taylor Terry 8-3.

No. 4 singles bracket — Andalusia’s Alex Evans def. T.R. Miller’s Brandon Nelson 8-0.

No. 5 singles bracket — Andalusia’s Jackson Moore def. T.R. Miller’s Rigby 8-0.

No. 6 singles bracket —T.R. Miller’s Michael Kast def. Andalusia’s Jonathan Wiggins 7-7 (7-2).

Doubles

No. 1 doubles bracket — T.R. Miller’s Dorso and Moore def. Andalusia’s Ricardy and Clark 8-3.

No. 2 doubles bracket — Andalusia’s Patel and Evans def. T.R. Miller’s Nelson and Terry 8-3.

Andalusia’s Moore and Wiggins def. T.R. Miller’s Kast and Justin Stringer 8-1.

“We’re kind of solid there in the middle with Mayur, Jonathan and Jackson,” Dillard said about the pairings. “Jake and Mitchell will have the toughest guys on the team. Most teams are like this.”

Next week, the Bulldogs will be busy when they hit the road to play W.S. Neal on Monday, host Enterprise on Tuesday and finish the week on Thursday in East Brewton against T.R. Miller.

Today, Andalusia will travel to play in a tournament at Blue Water Bay in Niceville, Fla.

Andalusia’s Aubry Boyington won her singles match 8-0.

In No. 2 doubles, Andalusia’s Anna Bay McCord and Maggie Jones won 8-6; and in No. 3 doubles, Jennifer Botta and Meredith Tillman won 8-6.

The girls’ next match will be Monday against W.S. Neal.
