SHS girls travel to Wetumpka for tournament

The sixth-ranked Straughn Lady Tigers softball team will hit the road today to compete in the Barry Mask Invitational tournament at the Sportsplex in Wetumpka.
The Lady Tigers (2-2-1) will start their tournament tonight at 6 against Stanhope Elmore in “Varsity Pool D.”
Straughn will play its second game against St. James at 7:30.
The other teams competing in the tournament are Central-Phenix City, Trinity, Robert E. Lee, Wetumpka (host), Central-Coosa, Kinston, Opelika, Tallassee and Prattville.
Central-Phenix City, Trinity and Robert E. Lee make up “Varsity Pool A”; Wetumpka, Central-Coosa and Kinston make up “Varsity Pool B”; and Opelika, Tallassee and Prattville make up “Varsity Pool C.”
“Pool A” games will be played on Field No. 5, “Pool B” games will be played on Field No. 1, “Pool C” games will be played on Field Nos. 2 and 3, and “Pool D” games will be played on Field No. 4.
On Saturday, pool play will move to a varsity single elimination format.
The No. 1 team in each pool will start at 1:30 p.m.
The teams that finish in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in pools “B” and “D” will start at 10:30 a.m.
The No. 2 and No. 3 spots in pools “A” and “C” will start at noon.
