Straughn wins Lady Bobcat fight
Straughn defeated Opp on the road in softball action Thursday night, forcing the 10-run mercy rule over the Lady Bobcats in six innings, winning 13-3.
In the first inning, Straughn’s Stephanie Bracewell and Kaitlynn Wiggins reached on singles.
Then, Katy Messick hit a two-run double to score Bracewell and Wiggins.
In the third inning, Wiggins, Tiffany Taylor and Hannah Twitty all reached on base and scored.
Bracewell was 2-for-4 with two runs; Wiggins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs; Messick was 2-for-4 with three RBIs; and Katie Beck was 1-for-1 with two runs.
Messick earned the win on the mound allowing five hits on six innings and struck out nine.
Straughn improves to 25-11-1 on the season and will play its last area game on Monday against Luverne at 4 p.m. Monday is also senior night for the Lady Tigers.
