A good spot to be in

Andalusia softball coach Marcus Taylor said his team is right where they need to be heading into today’s Class 4A, Area 3 tournament at the Andalusia Sports Complex.

The Lady Bulldogs start their tournament against No. 4 seeded Hillcrest-Evergreen at 1 p.m. Clarke County and Thomasville will start at 1 p.m. also on a different field.

Andalusia capped the regular season area title last Thursday against Clarke County, winning 12-1 in five innings. On Monday night, Andalusia finished its regular season with a 10-0 rout over Greenville.

Taylor said the girls are “hitting” the ball well right now.

“We couldn’t be in a better spot I don’ t think,” he said. “We’re hitting the ball better than we have been hitting the ball all year. We’ve 10-runed the past two teams that we’ve played.

“One of them was an area game for the area and then Greenville,” he said. “We struggled to score runs against Greenville in our first game of the year and that wasn’t the case (Monday night). You always want to peak at the end of the year and you talk about it and talk about it. Like I was telling coach (Teresa) Herring, ‘you can’t do it any better than what we’re doing now.’ ”

Andalusia improved to 23-11 on the season with the win over Greenville.

Taylor said he wants his team to mirror the last two games in “everything.”

“I told the girls Monday night, that if we play all of our games in the area tournament the way we did the last two, then I’m very confident we’ll have a chance to win,” he said.
