A former Andalusia businesswoman is dead and her son injured after a one-vehicle accident Thursday.
Sara Elizabeth Jones, 26 and owner of The Flower Basket, and her son, 7-year-old Hayden, were traveling on County Road 85 at 7:45 a.m., Thursday morning when the accident occurred.
“Our initial investigation indicates that Ms. Jones was traveling with her son when her 2003 Nissan X-terra left the roadway and overturned,” said Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook. “It also indicates the vehicle was traveling over the posted speed limit when she entered into a curve and ran off the road.”
Cook said Jones, who was unrestrained, was ejected from vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
“Her son was restrained and transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries,” he said.
Cook said the accident, which occurred about eight miles west of Opp, remains under investigation.
