Cubs (City), Pirates win

The Cubs (City) beat the Phillies 16-8 Thursday night in 9-to-10-year-old Cal Ripken action at Johnson Park.

In addition, the Pirates went on to claim first place in the 9-10 division with their 14-8 win over the Red Sox.

Cubs (City) 16, Phillies 8

Cubs hitter Black hit a grand slam home run in the second inning to tie the game up at four runs each to help lead his team to victory over the Phillies.

The Phillies gained an early edge scoring one run in the first inning, and three in the second.

The Cubs scored two runs in the third inning before wracking up 10 runs in the fourth inning in the win.

The Phillies scored their last four runs in the third inning.

For the Cubs, Lee Hurst scored one run; Johnson scored two runs; Walker scored three runs; Grant Holley scored three runs; Jones scored two runs; Hughes scored two runs; Black scored two runs; and Kyser scored one run.

For the Phillies, Barefoot scored two runs; N. Kelly scored one run; Carrasco scored one run; Sowards scored one run; Thompson scored two runs; and Marcum scored one run.

Pirates 14, Red Sox 8

Winning pitcher Thomas Phillips gave up four runs in two innings for the Pirates.

Then, B.J. Anderson earned the save pitching two innings to close out the win.

Will Clark hit a triple and a double scoring six runs; Anderson had a single and a double scoring four runs; and Peyton Miller drove scored two off a single.
