An early morning wreck in Opp sent one woman to the hospital, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Stewart Avenue, when the 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva driven by Brittany Sue Harris, 18, of Andalusia, struck a 1990 Chevrolet C1500 driven by Glena Birge, 40, of Opp.

Reports indicate that Harris was attempting to make a left hand turn onto North Main Street, and was blinded by the sun and thought she had the green arrow.

Harris’ vehicle struck Birge’s head on as Birge was traveling east on Stewart Avenue crossing over Main Street.

Reports indicate the traffic signal at the intersection does not have turning arrows.

Birge suffered injuries and was transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital.
