Straughn’s varsity girls beat Red Level 40-24 Tuesday night at the 13th annual Red Level Christmas Invitational tournament.
Anjelica Bonham and Audrey Driver led Straughn (12-2) with 10 points each.
SHS girls coach Scott Kinsaul said despite the win, the girls didn’t play to their potential.
“I don’t think we really played as well as we have been playing,” Kinsaul said. “We kind of took a step backwards. Red Level played good on defense tonight.”
Straughn led 11-6 at the end of the first period, 21-13 at half time and 27-20 at the end of the third period.
“We found a way to win,” Kinsaul said. “I’m just proud of them. They’re doing what it takes to get a win.”
With this win, Straughn will face rival Andalusia at 6 p.m. Thursday in the finals.
