Florala’s boys varsity team fell to Kinston 54-49 in overtime on Tuesday night in area action.

The Wildcats were tied 48-48 at the end of regulation. The Bulldogs hit a tres at the start of overtime, and Florala couldn’t answer.

“We just got a couple of tough breaks,” FHS boys coach Brad Garner said. “We just couldn’t answer that first shot that kid hit (in overtime). It put us behind the eight ball.”

The only time Florala did score was on a free-throw by Colt Jackson.

“They hit some free throws, and we had the opportunity to tie the game once or twice,” Garner said. “We just couldn’t get those shots to fall.”

Florala led over Kinston 21-13 at halftime, and was tied 35-all at the end of the third period.

“Having them score 13 points in the first half, the defensive effort was there from us,” Garner said. “Kinston’s size got to us there in the second half. They have a good basketball team.

“I was proud of the way we played,” he said. “We took strides forward last week, and I thought we took some big strides (Tuesday night).”

J.B. Burleson and Erik Vega led Florala with 17 points each.

Florala will play host to Pleasant Home on Friday night in area action.

In girls action, the Lady Wildcats beat Kinston, 41-26.

Mariah Thompson led Florala with 18 points, and Paige Irwin chipped in nine points.

In B-team action, Florala won 33-29 in overtime.
