Gerber lifts Opp over Geneva

Steadman Gerber led Opp with 17 points in his team’s 55-48 area road win over Geneva on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats and the Panthers traded leads throughout the contest. Geneva led 14-10 after the first period, and 40-33 after the third period, while Opp took a 22-21 lead at half time, and outscored Geneva 22-8 in the fourth period for the win.

“We hit some big shots,” Opp boys coach Ronnie Sansom said. “They were having to foul us.”

In the fourth period, Opp shot 11-of-18 from the free-throw line.

“It’s not great by any stretch, but it was big to hit them there in the end,” Sansom said.

Tyler Harrison added nine points, and Dane Buckelew had eight points for the Bobcats.

In varsity girls action, the Lady Bobcats fell 52-48.

The Bobcats improve to 5-13 overall, and 2-2 in Class 3A, Area 2 and with a win over Pike County on Friday night, Opp will lock up the No. 2 seed in the area.
