Red Level wins

Red Level beat Samson 84-54 in area action on Friday night.

The Tigers (14-9, 4-2 in Class 2A, Area 2) led 15-7 after the first period, and 32-19 at half time. By the end of the third period, Red Level led 58-32 and outscored Samson 26-22 in the fourth period.

Troy Nolen led Red Level with 19 points. Nick Dorsey added 17 points, Preston Ryce had eight points, Raheem Bullock and O.J. McGee had seven points each.

Lady Wildcats claim area title

Florala’s varsity girls basketball team beat Geneva County 47-26 to win the Class 1A, Area 2 regular season title on Friday night.

“I thought it was the best game our girls have played the entire season,” Lady Wildcats coach Ronnie Driver said. “They really put it together tonight. The score was no indication of how the game went. It was a close game up until the last quarter.”

Justina Clissold led the Lady Wildcats with 20 points. Paige Irwin had 13 points, and Mariah Thompson had 11 points.

The Lady Wildcats were undefeated in the area at 6-0, and will host the area tournament next month as the No. 1 seed.

Driver said a big key in the win on Friday night was that the team played together.

In varsity boys action, Florala lost 68-47.

Lavoris Ball led the Wildcats with 14 points.

Lady Tigers win

It was a low-scoring affair in Straughn on Friday night, but the Lady Tigers came away with a 20-17 area victory over the Headland Lady Rams at home.

Katy Messick led the Lady Tigers with six points. Tiffany Taylor and Jacie Williamson had five points each, and Katelyn Kinsaul and Paige Taylor scored two points each.

In varsity boys action, Headland beat Straughn 71-47.

Avery Driver and Austin Pickrel led the Tigers with 17 points each.
