Florala boys coach Brad Garner summed up his team’s 61-30 loss to Kinston in the semifinals of the Class 1A, Area 2 tournament as one that wasn’t “good.”

The Wildcats trailed 18-6 after the first period, 35-8 at half time and 41-21 at the end of the third period.

“We didn’t have a good one,” Garner said. “Kinston probably played the best game I’ve seen them play all year. I was really impressed with the way they came out.

“I thought (Kinston) coach (Scott) Sansom did a real good job of having them ready,” he said. “It looked like they were the ones that had something to prove.”

Colt Jackson and Hunter Oswald led the Wildcats with six points each.

Hunter Anderson led Kinston with 16 points, and Trent Archy had 14 points.

Garner said the Bulldogs took a big chunk out of his team’s momentum at the start.

“They just pretty much knocked us out of it real quick,” he said. “You’ve got to tip your hat to them.

“Teams in that situation are subject to a let down, and they cranked it up a notch. They just played a heck of a ball game.”

Florala ended its season 1-22.
