Straughn girls beat Opp

Straughn’s Paige Caraway struck out five, allowed no runs on one hit in five innings to help lead the Lady Tigers to an 8-0 victory over Opp tonight.

Caraway also contributed behind the plate, with two doubles and a single.

The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Tori Bracewell to score Katy Messick and Caraway. Messick reached on a single, and Caraway got on base with her first double of the night.

Messick singled, Caraway got her second double, Tiffany Taylor walked and Kelli Wilcox hit a two-run single in the third inning to help their team take a 4-0 lead. Megan Johns completed the scoring drive in the third inning with an RBI single to score Taylor.

Straughn scored one run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Laken Harris; scored one run in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Bracewell; and capped the night off in the seventh inning when Payton Mitchell hit an RBI single to score Johns.

Wiggins pitched in relief for Caraway in the last two innings. She struck out two, and allowed no runs on no hits.

Straughn will play host to its annual KLD softball tournament, which begins on Thursday.
