AHS boys tennis gets another win

Andalusia’s boys and girls split in varsity tennis action Thursday against Loveless Academic Magnet Program (LAMP) High School at LBWCC.

The varsity boys beat the Golden Tigers 6-3, while the varsity girls fell 3-6.

The Bulldogs won four matches in singles, and two matches in doubles action. The Lady Bulldogs won three matches in singles, and one match in doubles.

“We knew they (LAMP) were in a tough section,” AHS tennis coach Perry Dillard said. “We played really well.”

Andalusia’s Alex Evans beat LAMP’s Kevin Zhai in an 8-6 No. 1 singles thriller Thursday.

“Alex Evans played the best match he’s played all year,” Dillard said.

Andalusia’s Mayur Patel defeated LAMP’s David Mesina 8-4 in No. 2 singles; Andalusia’s Jackson Moore defeated Ricky Kim 9-7 in No. 3 singles; Jonathan Wiggins defeated LAMP’s Minsoo Yeo 8-3 in No. 4 singles; LAMP’s Brock Hidle defeated Andalusia’s Brandon Scruggs 8-1 in No. 5 singles; and LAMP’s Hyung Lee defeated Andalusia’s David may 8-6 in No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Evans and Wiggins defeated Mesina and Change 8-4 in No. 1 doubles; Patel and Moore defeated Zhai and Kim 9-7 in No. 2 doubles; and LAMP’s Chase McLain and Hidle defeated Scruggs and May 8-8 (7-5) in a tiebreaker.

LAMP girls 6, Andalusia girls 3

Aubrey Boyington and Lauren Beasley were the only singles winners for the Lady Bulldogs Thursday.

In other singles, Anna Bay McCord lost 9-8 (7-3) in a tiebreaker; Botta lost 8-1; Maggie Jones lost 9-7; and Meredith Tillman lost 8-4.

In doubles, Beasley and Botta won 8-4 to get the only doubles win for Andalusia.
