Paige Caraway pitched three innings, and Katy Messick came in in relief for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning in the win.

SHS head softball coach Ray Wilson said overall, the team played well in the field.

“Overall tonight, we played good defensively,” Wilson said. And, we pitched well throughout both games I thought.”

Opp scored its only run in the first inning when Laiken Free scored on a ground out by Beth Anne Spurlin.

“We made a couple errors and hurt ourselves,” OHS head softball coach Jimmy Reeves said. “I thought our pitcher pitched a real good game. We’ve got some things to take care of, and you can’t give them a game like that.”

The Lady Bobcats will continue in pool play today against Leroy at 11:30 a.m. on Field No. 1

Straughn (17-4) will play Leroy in the early game at 9 a.m. on Field No. 3.

Caraway struck out four batters in four innings, and Wiggins struck out three to help lead the Lady Tigers to the one-run win over Kinston.

In the bottom of the third inning, Bracewell hit the go-ahead and game-winning two-run double to score Hannah Twitty and Wiggins.

“We were kind of quiet until that inning,” Wilson said about Bracewell’s double in the third inning. “We got a big hit right there. That really kind of pushed us over.”
