Elba tournament prep round up

Trailing 5-1 in the fourth inning, Straughn connected on eight hits back-to-back and scored seven runs to beat the Opp Lady Bobcats 8-5 at Elba’s softball tournament on Saturday to start the day in pool play.

The Lady Tigers were knocked out of the tournament on a 3-2 loss to Ashford in the single elimination portion of the tournament.

In other action, Andalusia lost to Ashford 8-2; Opp beat Samson 3-0; and Elba beat Pleasant Home 3-2.

Straughn 8, Opp 5

Tiffany Taylor, Kelli Wilcox and Payton Mitchell hit one single each to load the bases start the fourth inning.

Then, Hannah Twitty and Kaitlynn Wiggins hit one two-run single each to score Taylor, Wilcox, Mitchell and Twitty, respectively.

To end the inning, Straughn’s Laken Harris hit an RBI single to score Wiggins; Katy Messick hit an RBI double to score Harris; and Paige Caraway hit an RBI double to score Messick.

Caraway earned the win on the mound in four innings. She struck out six and gave up five runs on six hits.

Ashford 3, Straughn 2

The Lady Tigers scored one run on an RBI single from Caraway in the top of the first inning.

The Lady Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the first inning on a three-run double with two outs to clear the bases.

Straughn’s second run came on a solo home run by Caraway in the fourth inning.

Messick struck out six and allowed six hits for the Lady Tigers.

Ashford 8, Andalusia 2

Ashford scored four runs in the first inning, and added two runs each in the second and third innings to beat Andalusia.

The Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the first inning on a sac fly by Emily Terry to score Jessica Park.

In the fourth inning, Andalusia scored one run on an error.

Park was 1-for-2 with a run; Ellie Pollock was 0-for-2 with a run; Kenna Edmondson was 1-for-2 with a single; and Andi Hughes was 1-for-1 with a single.

The Lady Yellow Jackets scored their eight runs on 10 hits in the win.
