Lamon Godwin and Scotty Boutwell took home first place honors, along with $600 in prize money at the Southeast Alabama Gas District’s Fishing For a Cure tournament at Point A Lake in Gantt.

Godwin and Boutwell caught 13.09 pounds of bass at the event, where in total, 50 fishermen caught 100 fish that weighed a total of 151.11 pounds of fish. The fish were later released as part of the tournament.

The annual event netted more than $2,400 that will be a part of the SEAGD’s team contribution to this year’s Covington County Relay For Life event, which is today, April 29, at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds.

“Our tournament goal is obviously to raise money for cancer research funded by the American Cancer Society,” SEAGD employee Reba Gant said in a press release. “But, it’s also a chance for us to educate more people about the effects of cancer, ways to prevent cancer and how cancer impacts all in one way or another.”
