He’s just one more step closer to a state golf title.

Andalusia’s Josh Atkinson competed with four other players and won in a seven-hole playoff at the Class 4A sub-state tournament on Monday, and qualified to play in the state tournament next week in Mobile.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot a 315 to finish in fourth place at the tournament.

Oneonta and UMS-Wright tied for first place with a 300, and St. James came in second place with a 301.

AHS golf coach Marshall Locke said the team played well overall, and Atkinson played a “smart” round.

“He just played the course real smart,” Locke said. “He didn’t have to scramble.”

Atkinson was one of four guys competing for the playoffs spot at the state tournament.
