Bobcats workin’ out

At three days and seven-and-a-half hours per week since June 6, the Opp Bobcats football team has been busy, working on getting ready for the fall.

“The work outs have been fine,” OHS head coach Jack Whigham said while taking a break in the action Thursday morning. “I still believe what we’ve been doing during the summer at seven-and-a-half hours per week is pretty good.”

The work outs for Opp during the month of June have taken place for two-and-a-half hours during the morning on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Bobcats will move to an early evening start time at 5 p.m. in July as the start of fall practice approaches.

Summer work outs at OHS have included hitting, running and agility drills, to name a few.

Additionally, Opp has been working on its offense and defense.

On Thursday, the Bobcats were going to work on a defensive pursuit drill, Whigham said.

“We try to work on some different part of the game every day,” he said.

In July, Opp will start to shift its work and focus on special teams, in addition to its offensive and defensive work.

Whigham said one thing that is on the positive is the number of younger players on the team.

“We’re a lot more athletic in our younger classes than we are in our older classes,” Whigham said.
