All-Stars earn state berth

The 12-and-under South Alabama All-Stars baseball team needed an essential win over East Brewton Monday night in an elimination game to claim a spot in the state tournament.
South Alabama got the win it needed when the Andalusia team beat East Brewton 9-6 to claim the runner-up spot at the district tournament.
With the win over East Brewton, South Alabama faced Brewton in the championship, and fell 10-0.

In the bottom of the first inning, South Alabama’s Riley Graham, Madison Ward and Chase Hopkins scored on two hits.
East Brewton rallied in the top of the second, scoring two runs on one hit.
South Alabama took a 4-2 lead in the third inning when Hopkins scored for the Andalusia team.
South Alabama added three runs in the fourth on five hits when Will Clark, B.J. Anderson and Graham scored.
Both teams traded runs back and forth in the fifth inning with East Brewton scoring three and South Alabama scoring two.
South Alabama racked up 13 hits and Ward pitched a complete game with six strike outs and two walks.
Ward was 3-for-4; Sim Bowden was 1-for-3; Hopkins was 3-for-4; Graham was 1-for-3;
Anderson was 1-for-4; Clark was 3-for-3; and Will Jones was 1-for-3 for South Alabama.
The 12-and-under state tournament will be held in Brewton beginning Fri., July 8.
