FHS having summer success

With more than two weeks on the job under his belt, newly hired Florala head football coach Justin Jones said he’s been “pleased” with the summer work outs.

“We’ve had good numbers,” Jones said. “We’ve had a lot of interest from kids that may not have played in the past that are wanting to be a part of something special.

“The kids have worked hard, and we’ve hit the weights pretty hard,” he said.

The Wildcats have already started their conditioning phase of the summer program, working out three days per week.

“We’re just getting things ready for August,” Jones said.

Jones said the team gets started each day at 7:30 a.m. and about 35 players attend the work outs each day.

When asked if he’s already set any sort of goals for the season, Jones said the team hasn’t, yet.

“At this time, we deal with more expectations — what’s expected out of us as a Florala Wildcat,” he said. “That’s the thing we’re learning right now, not necessarily what a goal is.

“To have a goal, you’ve got to have a status quota,” he said. “You’ve got to know what is expected. Right now, we’re more worried about what’s expected as a high school player at Florala High School.”
