Seven members of Andalusia’s Isshinryu Karate class attended the USYKA Summer Camp on Sat., July 16, at Henry Horton State Park in Columbia, Tenn.

The students met with instructors and students from several other karate schools from a four-state area to work out. Additionally, the karate students competed in a board-breaking competition.

Andalusia’s students started the day with an hour-long work out, then attended seminars and clinics by different master instructors in a variety of different areas – tournament forms, weapons, full-contact training, juijitsu, and others to name a few.

At the end of the day, participants moved to the conference center, where the board-breaking competition was held.

Andalusia competitors placed in the following board breaking divisions for their age and rank:

• Dr. Kenny Blackston, first place, brown belt men

• Caleb Blackston, first place, yellow belt

• Garrett Blackston, fourth place, yellow belt

• Alex Myrick, third place, brown belt

• Rexanne Butler, second place, green belt

• Allen Butler, third place, black belt

• Dr. Rex Butler, second place, brown belt men

Andalusia Isshinryu is now enrolling students of all ages for fall classes.

The class is taught next door to USA Gym and Fitness Center.

Classes are taught by Mark Rudd.
