Straughn V-ball exhibition is today

Straughn’s volleyball program has the urge to compete, said head coach Marc Tracy.

That’s why today starting at 9 a.m. in the high school’s gymnasium, the Lady Tigers varsity and junior varsity teams will play host to a three-school volleyball exhibition.

In addition to Straughn, Pleasant Home and Opp will participate. There will be a total of six matches.

“It’s good to have competition against someone other than yourself,” Tracy said. “We practice every day for weeks against each other.”

In past seasons, Straughn has traveled to play in a preseason tournament in Flomaton, but Tracy thought it would be a good idea to have one at the school.

“With the facilities we have here, I just thought we could host one here,” he said. “We hope to make it an annual thing and make it bigger.”

There is no admission to the preseason tournament and the format will be the best 2-out-of-3 games and each game will have a maximum of 24 points scored, instead of the normal 25.

Concessions will be available.

Additionally, Straughn’s volleyball team will be selling tickets at $5 apiece for an opportunity to win a $500 Visa gift card during the day. The drawing will be held during the Sept. 1 Opp-Straughn match.
