Halifax, Mass., East Brewton, Oviedo win

ANDALUSIA — In today’s final morning games of the 2011 Babe Ruth 12U World Series, Halifax, Mass., East Brewton and Oviedo, Fla. all got wins.

Halifax beat Hazlet, N.J. 4-0; East Brewton won out over rival Brewton 9-1; and Oviedo had an eight-run rally in the fourth to beat Lido, Calif. 11-1.

In tonight’s final pool play games, Halifax will play East Brewton at 7:30 on Field No. 3; Hazlet will play Lodi at 7:30 p.m. on Field No. 1; and Oviedo will play Brewton at 7:30 p.m. on Field No. 2.

Halifax, Mass. 4, Hazlet, N.J. 0

Halifax’s Shannon Grindle was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and Libby Czarniak and Maddy Barone got one hit each.

Barone threw a no-hitter, while striking out seven batters in six innings.

Halifax scored two runs early in the first inning, and added two more in the fifth inning to seal the win.

Demi Rivera and Nicole Coppolino allowed two runs each on the mound in the loss.

East Brewton 9, Brewton 1

East Brewton got its first win of the tournament today, defeating its town rival.

Sky Gorum, Aleiha Emmons, Tory Wyatt, Lizzy Nichols and Erin Hartsel had one RBI each for East Brewton.

Haleigh Dubose got the win for East Brewton. She struck out four, and allowed 1.5 runs no three hits.

Rebekah Turner got the save.

For Brewton, Bethany McDonald was 2-for-3 with two singles and one RBI.

Oviedo, Fla. 11, Lodi, Calif. 1

Oviedo scored eight runs in the fourth inning to help spur the 10-run win over Lodi, Calif. today.

Jordan Miller was 3-for-4 with two singles, one double and two RBIs; Morgan Murphy was 1-for-4 with a single and two RBIs; and Alex Southard was 1-for-3 with one single and two RBIs for Oviedo.

Natalie Murphy was 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI; Gillian Faberlle was 3-for-4 with two doubles, one single and an RBI; Taryn Wheeler was 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI; and Anne-Marie Watson was 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI.

Wheeler struck out three, and M. Murphy struck out four on the mound for Oviedo.

Lodi’s Hannah Russell and Taelor Ford had one hit each.
