Lodi, Calif., packing heat

Lodi, Calif. came out hot and beat East Brewton 10-0 and Halifax, Mass., 15-3 during the second day pool play at the 2011 Babe Ruth 12U Softball World Series on Friday.

Lodi is now 3-0 in pool play, and will face Oviedo, Fla., also 3-0, at 10:30 a.m. today on Field No. 3. East Brewton will face Brewton at 10:30 a.m. on Field No. 1.

Kiana Parrish, Taelor Ford and Lauren Vickers had two RBIs each to help lead Lodi over East Brewton Friday.

Lodi came out swinging, racking up 10 runs on 11 hits. East Brewton managed two hits.

Lodi scored three runs in the second inning, added four runs in the third inning, two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth in the win.

Alyssa Casillas struck out three and allowed no runs on two hits in four innings, and Mariah Mendoza allowed no runs on no hits and struck out two in one inning for Lodi.

Parrish was 2-for-3, Ford was 1-for-3 and Vickers was 1-for-1 behind the plate.

Additionally, Hannah Russell, Janessa Cook, Kalani Cox and Casillas had one RBI each.

East Brewton’s Kelsi Chandler and Aleiha Emmons got one hit each.

Russell hit five runs in, and Parrish and Carley Morfey added two RBIs each for Lodi.

Mendoza pitched five innings, gave up two earned runs on five hits and struck out four to earn the win.

Lodi scored its 15 runs on 12 hits in the contest. It scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth inning.

Halifax scored its three runs in the third inning to tie the game up.

Halifax’s Leah Mackiewich, Maddy Barone and Libby Czarniak had one hit each, and Emily Critch had two hits.
