Oviedo, Fla., gets 2 wins Friday

Oviedo, Fla., dominated its first game Friday against East Brewton, but battled it out against Hazlet, N.J., in the night cap.

Oviedo scored eight runs in the first inning, and beat East Brewton 10-0.

In the night cap, Oviedo and Hazlet battled with the game at 3-2, but the Florida team added one run in the fifth inning to get the win.

In other action Friday, Oviedo doubled up Hazlet 4-2 to get a win in tournament play.

Oviedo scored three runs in the first inning to take an early lead but saw their lead cut to one when Hazlet scored two in the top of the second.

Leading 3-2 after the top of the fifth, Oviedo picked up its final run in the bottom of the fifth and held Hazlet scoreless in the sixth to get the win.

Florida had seven hits in the win and no errors while New Jersey had three hits and one error.

Gillian Faberlle was 2-for-3 at the plate in the win with a double, a single and two RBIs.

Taryn Wheeler pitched in the win.

For New Jersey, Nicole Coppolino pitched in the loss while Ashley Marino had the lone RBI.

Natalie Murphy struck out five in three innings to earn the win on the mound.

The team from Florida got its bats rolling in the first inning when N. Murphy started off with a single.

Jordan Miller followed with an RBI double to score Murphy; Morgan Murphy singled Miller home; Faberlle singled M. Murphy home; Faberlle scored on a passed ball; Wheeler scored on a fielder’s choice by Escudero; Escudero and Alex Southard scored on a two-run double by Payton Germer; and Germer scored on a single by N. Murphy to end the scoring drive for Oviedo in the first inning.

N. Murphy was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs; Germer was 1-for-1 with two RBIs; and Jordan Miller, M. Murphy, Faberlle and Escudero had one RBI each for Oviedo.

No East Brewton player got a hit against Oviedo.
