The Opp Bobcats will face a better Geneva team tonight on the road in a region contest, head football coach Jack Whigham said.

“They had sort of a rough game their first game (against Straughn),” Whigham said. “They have improved a lot in the last two weeks.

“They beat an improved Dale County team, and last week they tied Abbeville late,” he said.

Geneva ended up losing to Abbeville 34-22 in last week’s contest.

The Bobcats’ defense will face a Panthers team that likes to run the ball more than throw it, Whigham said.

“We’ve got to get our alignments correct, and know what they like to do out of those formations,” he said.

Opp (2-1, 2-0 in Class 3A, Region 2) is riding on a two-game win streak going into tonight’s game.

Whigham said despite that, there’s still a lot of work left to do.

“We’ve still got a lot of improvements to make in a lot of areas,” he said. “Right now, what we’ve got to do is not read our own press clippings.

“The season is a long season,” he said. “Were very fortunate to be 2-0 (in region play), and proud to be 2-0. There’s still a lot of games to be played. The easiest way to lose games is if we lose humility. If we stay humble, then we have a chance to win some more games.”

Kick off in Geneva is at 7 p.m.
