Opp’s Lady Bobcats beat Geneva 3-0 in the Class 3A, Area 2 finals on Monday night to claim their first area title since 2007.

The Lady Bobcats won the finals match over the Lady Panthers 26-24, 25-14, 25-20, and the semifinals match over Pike County 25-20, 25-14, 25-11.

“We’re excited,” OHS head volleyball coach Christie Spurlin said. “We beat them in three straight games.”

Spurlin said the girls hustled and gave it all they had.

“We knew we wanted to win,” she said. “They went out there and did what they had to do to win.”

The Lady Bobcats were coming off a two-match loss to T.R. Miller and Pleasant Home when they entered Monday’s area tournament at GHS.

Opp will play host to the Class 3A South Regional tournament this Sat., Oct. 15.

The regional tournament is slated to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
