Opp’s Lady Bobcats had to change some things in their game plan against Abbeville, but made the adjustments to beat the Lady Yellow Jackets 3-2 to claim a third place finish at the Class 3A, Regional A tournament in Montgomery, head volleyball coach Christie Spurlin said.

“We had to adjust to how they were playing,” she said. “We played five games, and the girls hustled good. They knew they wanted third place instead of fourth.”

The Lady Bobcats earned a berth to play in the sub-state round this Thursday with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16) quarterfinals victory over Daleville. Opp will play Northside out of Northport.

“I think as long as the girls go up there with confidence and want to win, that they’ll do as good as we can do,” Spurlin said. “All I can ask of them is to give 100 percent.”

In the semifinals, the Lady Bobcats lost to host school Montgomery Academy 10-25, 8-25, 14-25.

“They were really good,” Spurlin said about Montgomery Academy. “The girls held their own, and tried to play the best they could against them. They had some really hard hitters.”
