Bobcats, Red Tops to square off

Opp will end its region’s regular season tonight on the road against Slocomb, and Bobcats head football coach Jack Whigham said it’s going to take a “really good game” from the team to win.

“They have a really good team,” Whigham said. “They have really good linemen. They play extremely hard.

The Bobcats (6-2, 6-0 in Class 3A, Region 2) are coming off a 22-20 region title victory over Abbeville last week. The Red Tops (6-2, 4-2) fell to Abbeville 14-6 on Oct. 7.

Whigham admitted he was afraid the team would have a “hang over” after last week’s region championship win over Abbeville. Instead, Whigham said practice has been great this week.

“We’ve focused really well at the first two days of practice,” Whigham said on Wednesday. “I’d be extremely disappointed if we didn’t go out and play hard (tonight).”

Kick off at Red Tops Stadium in Slocomb is at 7 tonight.
