Red Level got its revenge on Monday night.
RLS beat Elba 79-61 to claim the Class 2A, Area 2 championship at EHS, playing one of the best defensive games it has had all season, coach Allen Catrett said.
“We just executed the game plan,” he said. “You win off of your defense. We executed and played with more confidence (Monday night).”
With this victory, Red Level will host Flomaton on Friday night for the Class 2A sub regional tournament. The last time RLS played FHS was on Dec. 2 during the regular season, where it picked up a 63-47 win.
KJ Lawrence led RLS (21-10) with 33 points — the same as last Friday night; James Feagin chipped in 20 points and nine rebounds; and Troy Nolen had 12 points.
Red Level led 12-9 after the first period and took a 30-19 lead into half time.
Elba was outscored 22-14 in the third period.
One thing that Catrett said helped in the win was his team’s unwillingness to depend on the perimeter shot.
“When we did shoot it, we shot 75 percent from the perimeter,” he said.
