Softball All-Stars to play at state

Local Babe Ruth softball teams from Andalusia and Covington County will battle with teams from southern Alabama to earn their spots in the regional tournament over the next four days in Brewton.
Andalusia and Covington County’s 8U, 10U and 12U All-Stars Babe Ruth Softball teams will compete with teams from Alex City, Brewton, East Brewton, Evergreen and Flomaton at the tournaments.
Roger Chapman, president of the parks and recreation board of the City of Brewton, said it’s going to be a really good event in town.
“We’re just happy to be able to host the tournament for the girls,” Chapman said. “I think it will have a positive economic impact on the city.
“We’re excited to have it here, and excited to show off Brewton’s sports department and and facilities,” he said.
Starting today, the 8U and 10U teams will compete in pool play until Saturday, where the tournament transitions to a format where the top seeds from each pool play against each other. The championship will be held on Sunday at 11 a.m. between the winners of Saturday’s games.
The 12U tournament bracket is double elimination, and the tournament championship is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.
8U State Tournament
In the 8U tournament, Covington County will kick things off at 10 a.m. against Alex City this morning. Andalusia follows with a game against host Brewton at noon.
Then at 2 p.m., CC will play Atmore. Andalusia finishes its first day of pool play against Alex City at 4 p.m.
On Friday, Andalusia will face Atmore at 10 a.m., and Covington County plays Brewton at noon.
Andalusia and Covington County will face each other at 4 p.m. to end pool play action.
The No. 1 seed will play the No. 4 seed at 10 a.m., and the No. 2 seed will play the No. 3 seed at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
10U State Tournament
Starting today, Andalusia will play Atmore at noon, and Covington County plays Flomaton/East Brewton at 2 p.m.
To end the first day of pool play, Andalusia and Covington County will square off at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Andalusia will play Brewton at noon, and Covington County plays Atmore at 2 p.m.
Andalusia then will face Flomaton/East Brewton at 4 p.m., and Covington County plays Brewton at 6 p.m. to end pool play action at the tournament.
The No. 1 seed plays the No. 4 seed at 4 p.m., and then No. 2 seed plays the No. 3 seed at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
12U State Tournament
Andalusia will play Brewton at 6 tonight, and Covington County plays Atmore at 8 p.m. Evergreen plays Flomaton at 4 p.m. today, and Tri-County plays the winner of Evergreen-Flomaton at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
The next game in the winner’s bracket is at noon tomorrow.
Elimination bracket games pick up at 2 p.m. tomorrow between the loser of Andalusia-Brewton and Covington County-Atmore.
