Opp Middle School football coach Tim Grimes said he feels pretty confident that his Bobcats will “hold their own” this season.
The Bobcats are dressing out 40 players — 24 eighth graders and 16 seventh graders.
Grimes said he’s got four kids who were in seventh grade last year back on the line.
“We feel like we’re going to be able to hold our own against everybody,” Grimes said. “Andalusia is always good, Straughn’s going to be lots better.”
In addition to Andalusia and Straughn this season, Opp will face Red Level, a new team in the league.
So far, Grimes said he has secured his quarterback position with Peyton Whigham taking the helm.
Orlando Lacey will be at tailback; Greg House will be at fullback; and there is a good chance Clay Caldwell and Walt Meeks will be the Bobcats’ receivers and flankers, Grimes said.
Opp’s jamboree game is Thurs., Aug. 23, on the road at Straughn.
