CCB: Ignore text message

CCB Community Bank is encouraging its customers to ignore text messages being received today.

“So far, the texts have only gone to our customers who use AT&T,” Wem Mellown said. “But if you follow the instructions, someone in California will steal money from the account.”

The text (shown) says that a debit card has been deactivated and asks the recipient to call a certain number. When the call is made, the caller is asked to enter his debit card number. At this point, trouble begins, Mellown said.

“We are working to determine how cell phone numbers were captured because we don’t even have our customers’ cell numbers,” Mellown said. “Please, ignore this text message if you receive one.”
