A Babbie couple is behind bars after Drug Task Force agents found nearly a pound of marijuana and ICE inside their Nelson Road home.

DTF Commander Mark Odom said agents were led to the scene early Monday evening after receiving information about illegal drug activity at the home of Gyndol Gay Draper, 59, and Roy Patrick Draper, 56.

“Off that information, we were able to obtain a search warrant; however, on our way to the residence, we met the (Drapers) on the road,” Odom said. After a short chase, the couple was apprehended and detained by Sheriff Dennis Meeks, Florala Police Chief Sonny Bedsole and Alabama Beverage Control Board agent Robbie Barton.

Odom said members of the IRT team arrived and cleared the way for DTF agents to begin inventorying the home.

As of press time, agents had located several bags of marijuana, packages of ICE and cash. ICE is also known as crystal meth.

“It’s approximately 10 to 12 ounces of marijuana and an estimated 18 grams of ICE,” Odom said. “We also seized a large amount of U.S. currency.”

As of press time, agents were continuing to document the contents of the home, and Odom said additional information would be released sometime today.
