LBWCC’s Saints are looking to have fun and compete at the Alabama Community College Conference State Tournament in Ozark.

The Saints enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed from the southern division because Faulkner State, the previous No. 1 seed, was put on probation. LBWCC was the No. 2 seed and would’ve played Central Alabama in the first round if the Sun Chiefs were still playing.

The ACCC state tournament begins on Saturday, where the Saints play the No. 2 seed from the north, Wallace State-Hanceville.

“I’m excited for our kids to go in as the No. 1 seed,” Saints head baseball coach Steve Helms said. “We’ve worked hard and competed very hard.

“We’re just going to go over there to have fun and compete,” he said. “If we’re lucky enough to score more runs than the other team, then we’ll be fine.”

The Lions have 2012 Pitcher of the Year Bret Marks, who was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 22nd round last June.

Helms said the team is going to show up and give it its all at the tournament.

“We’ve got our work cutout for us,” he said about facing Marks. “We’re going to show up and give 110 percent and see what happens.”

LBWCC enters the state tournament 34-12 overall.
