The Covington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Monday night shooting in Babbie that left one man injured.

Chief Deputy David Anderson said the incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on Potter Road. Anderson said while deputies were traveling to investigate the “disturbance” at the home, they received a call from Mizell Memorial Hospital of a man suffering a gunshot wound.

Anderson said Opp Police officers were dispatched to the hospital, while deputies continued to the Potter Road home.

“Opp officers were able to determine that the two calls were related,” Anderson said. “The gunshot victim stated that he had been shot at the residence on Parker Road. Deputies arrived at the shooting scene and detained an individual and recovered a shotgun.”

Anderson said the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries to his right thigh and leg areas.

“Witnesses were interviewed at the scene and at the hospital; however, investigators are continuing to interview other witnesses and are following up on this case,” he said. “No arrests have been made at this time.”

Anderson declined to identify those involved as the case is still ongoing.
