Andalusia Police are investigating a “crime of opportunity” that led to the theft of 40 semi-truck tires and a stolen company truck.

Sgt. Roger Cender said Tuesday that someone – or more – cut the lock and chain at the Andalusia Tire Company and helped themselves to a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a 20-foot utility trailer loaded with thousands of dollars worth of tires.

“We know that it happened sometime between the close of business on Friday and 4 p.m. on Sunday,” Cender said. “We were notified shortly after that afternoon. A concerned citizen noticed the truck and the trailer parked at Carolina Grocery the next morning.”

Sans the tires, of course.

“We’ve determined that the truck was driven approximately 112 miles from the time it was stolen, which gives an approximately 56-mile radius that we believe the suspects may have transported the tires to either sell for profit or keep for themselves,” he said.
