A tip from “a good citizen” led local law enforcement officers to a one-pot meth lab inside a home on H D Wilson Road Friday morning.

Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks said two men were taken into custody on drug charges after being found inside the residence with “finished product” on their persons.

Arrested were the home’s owner, 42-year-old Scott Dewayne Cannon, as well as 42-year-old Charles Allred of Kinston.

Meeks said the call to law enforcement led them to obtaining a search warrant, which was executed just before noon on Friday.

“We found bi-layer liquid and several firearms in the home,” Meeks said. An undisclosed amount of marijuana, as well as devices used for smoking narcotics were also discovered inside the residence.

Meeks said no children were inside the residence at the time of the arrests, although children’s toys and photographs were present inside the home, as well as in the back yard.

The arrests came only two days after Andalusia Police Department officially rejoined the county’s Drug Task Force, and APD members were present at Friday’s crime scene, along with other DTF agents and officers with Opp Police Department and the Alabama Beverage Control board.

Both men were charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, drug trafficking, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia, and booked into the Covington County Jail, each on a $557,500 bond.
