An Opp woman is dead after an early morning crash near the Covington-Coffee county line.
Alabama State Troopers, along with a host of other emergency personnel, responded to Whatley Road, located between Cantaline Bridge and Oakey Ridge Church roads, just after 7 a.m. Friday.
Emergency personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to remove 21-year-old Shaecqua Peacock after she lost control of her 2007 Nissan Altima and struck a culvert, two miles west of Babbie. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Norman Hobson. Peacock was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, according to Trooper Kevin Cook.
Law enforcement officials attributed the crash to wet road conditions.
The accident remains under investigation by the AST.
